To start another working week we revealed what is probably the most bizarre marketing ploy of all time.
BrewDog – make a careful note of that name – BrewDog – because they’ve hidden 10 solid gold cans in their PUNK IPA 12-packs.
If you should be lucky enough to get your hands on one of the rare packs, you will actually be getting one less can of beer but as the golden cans are worth around £15,000 each it would be churlish to complain especially as in addition to the extra value can, you will also receive £10,000 worth of BrewDog shares and be invited to the BrewDog HQ in Ellon, Scotland where you’ll be taken on a private tour by the company founders, JAMES WATT and MARTIN DICKIE.
Before you head off to your nearest stockist note that all the golden cans have been distributed amongst the 12-packs available only via BrewDog’s on line shop and secondly the actual solid gold cans will not actually be in the crates. No there’ll be “dummy” cans which can then be exchanged for the real 24-carat gold cans.
Good luck with that, but if all else fails you could always order one of the company’s Advent Calendar which at least guarantees you 24 beers!
In the second hour of today’s show we asked whether you had ever written a revue on TripAdvisor.
Well an American tourist, named Wesley Barnes did just that following a stay at a hotel in Thailand.
As his review was less than complimentary, the hotel took exception to his comments and had him arrested and thrown into jail for breaching that country’s strict defamation laws.
Actually he was fairly lucky as he only spent 2 days behind bars but could have faced up to 2 years of enforced incarceration.
The hotel which is on the island of Koh Chang, said his accusations were unfounded.
Well having accused them of a variety of things including modern day slavery, the review was probably a bit over the top especially as it all stemmed from the hotel’s refusal to allow him to bring his own alcoholic beverage into the restaurant!
It seems that the hotel’s initial attitude to his request resulted in a somewhat lively altercation even though the manger ultimately agreed to waive the fee for corkage.
In their defence the hotel said that before taking action against Mr Barnes they had made multiple efforts to contact him to resolve the issue.
Mr Barnes has now retracted his review, which he admitted had been made out of anger and malice, and he’s apologised to both the hotel and the tourism authority in Thailand.
Be careful what you say – you have been warned!
All being well I’ll see you again tomorrow,
Scott
