Unknowingly I seemed to create a theme for today’s show… Successful older people!
First there was the news that at the age of 80 Cliff Richard has hit the charts yet again! He sets a new all-time Official Chart record this week by becoming the first artist ever to score a Top 5 album in eight consecutive decades.
The chart icon, who celebrated his 80th birthday last month, lands at Number 3 on this week’s Official Albums Chart with his latest record Music The Air That I Breathe.
Then it was on to 76 year old Keith Richards who has spoken about The Rolling Stones’ upcoming 60th anniversary, saying that “the plans are to still actually all be alive” by the time the milestone comes around.
The veteran band are set to celebrate 60 years together in 2022
And finally an 80-year-old living with dementia has landed at No. 32 on this week’s Official Singles Chart.
Paul Harvey of Buxted, Sussex, went viral in September after his son Nick posted footage of the former music teacher improvising a song on his piano, performing “an old party trick” that sees him compose a tune from just four notes.
Nick put the video online to showcase how the power of music can help those living with brain disorders, which was then played on BBC Radio Four’s Broadcasting House for World Alzheimer’s Day. The show’s host Paddy O’Connell then arranged for the song to be recorded by the BBC Philharmonic Orchestra.
Proceeds are being split between the Alzheimer’s Society and Music for Dementia.
It wasn’t all “old” news today though, take a listen to the show right here –
