On another busy Saturday afternoon of sporting action the FA Cup took centre stage as far as non-League football was concerned, and it was a successful day for all four of our local sides involved in the fourth and final qualifying round, all of whom made it through to the draw for the First Round Proper where they will be joined by the 48 clubs from EFL Leagues One and Two.

Canvey Island of the Isthmian North reached that stage for the first time in 16 years, thanks to a 3-2 victory over Cray Wanderers at Park Lane and their near neighbours Concord Rangers also went through, after a late winner gave them a 2-1 victory at home to fellow National League South outfit Chippenham Town.

Maldon & Tiptree of the Isthmian North are aiming to repeat their historic run of last season, after a late penalty gave them a 1-0 win at home to Haringey Borough of the Isthmian Premier League.

And National League side Dagenham & Redbridge also went through, after a 1-0 victory against Southern League Hartley Wintney at the Chigwell Construction Stadium.

In League Two Leyton Orient scored a fine 2-0 win away to Stevenage, but there was more woe for bottom club Southend United, who are still winless after losing by the same score at Tranmere Rovers.

But in the National League South Chelmsford City scored their first victory of the season, Robbie Simpson’s side winning 1-0 at home to Maidstone United.

Andy Gardener was on hand to tell us about Ilford’s 3-0 win over Woodford Town in the Essex Senior League, whilst Scott Lanza travelled to Harwich & Parkeston to report on Barkingside’s 1-1 draw with the hosts in the Thurlow Nunn Division One South.
