We caught up with Sunnight to talk about his musical career and new single DARK.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I’m Sunnight – I grew up in France, and I am of Vietnamese origin.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I have always loved singing – whether at school, intimate concerts, on stage, even singing 2-3 notes in a musical makes me happy for the rest of the day.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I used to listen to Khanh Ly (a Vietnamese folk protest singer) – her music recalls Vietnam before 1975 and I got my artist name after one of her songs. I also love Barbra Streisand, Edith Piaf, Dalida, ABBA, The Carpenters, Yves Montand, Charles Aznavour, Frank Sinatra, Nat King Cole, Mahalia Jackson …

And by singing along to their melodies, I became a baritone D2-A4 (up to B5 by head voice).

What kind of music do you like to sing?

I was on romantic music, love songs, some kind of adult contemporary music. I am always figuring out how to create my signature, to give more soul and more life to my music.

Last year I decided to come back to school to produce my own music. So here I am, a touch of Alternative – Dream Pop. Just me, but some more warm memories, a little complicity, affectionate secrets, a hidden corner in this world …

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment?

At the moment I listen to Celine Dion, Christina Aguilera, Zaz, Adele, Sia, Lana Del Rey (I love her vintage note). I love music with a story, inflection, phase made up …

What are your hopes for the future?

I hope people will like DARK, my new single! Of course I dream to be well known and to collaborate with other artists, indie musicians, vocalists, I love ’em.

My plan is to produce more music, for me, and maybe for others, find out more materials, increase the sound quality to make my music more perceived, touching and impressive.
