Another busy Saturday afternoon saw many of our local football teams in action, some in the FA Trophy Extra Preliminary Round and others in their respective leagues.

Performance of the day came from Bowers & Pitsea, who scored seven goals without reply against Leatherhead in the Isthmian Premier League.

In the Essex Senior League, Hashtag United showed their recent cup adventures haven’t proved to be a distraction as they won 4-2 at Sawbridgeworth Town, a game covered for us by our reporter Scott Lanza.

But Southend United’s struggling start to the EFL League Two season continued, as visitors Morecambe came from behind to win 2-1 at Roots Hall.

In cricket, Essex were contesting a Bob Willis Trophy final against Somerset at Lords. They went on to lift the trophy on Sunday after five days’ play.
