Now even if you are a world champion sprinter, can you imagine the shock and disappointment after just having been declared a new world record holder, only to discover that you aren’t.
Well that’s what just happened to reigning 200m American champion sprinter, Noah Lyles.
After seemingly setting a new world record beating the time achieved by Usain Bolt, his time of 18.9 seconds, to complete the run, was challenged. The previous best time he had achieved had been 19.5 seconds whilst Bolt’s record set in 2009 had been 19.19 seconds.
When Lyles crossed the finishing line so far clear, and his finishing time flashed up on screens, it produced a flurry of comments, such as “that just can’t be right”.
Sadly for Lyles, this proved all too true, after it was discovered that the race organisers had placed him in the wrong lane before firing the starting pistol, meaning that he had in fact only run 185m instead of the full 200m.
Cancel the party then!
Being a Tuesday Margaret Mills joined me today to tell us about, Conrad Noel, the “red” vicar of Thaxted who was vicar there for about 30 years from 1910 until his death in 1942.
Controversially alongside the flag of St George, he also displayed both THE RED FLAG and the flag of Sinn Fein in the church, which displeased the Church authorities and eventually the Rev Noel was forced to remove the flags in 1922.
Listen again here to what Margaret had to say on this rather colourful individual : –
I’ll see you again next week,
