The subject chosen today by Margaret Mills was Conrad Noel, the “red” vicar of Thaxted. He held the post there for about 30 years from 1910 until his death in 1942.
Controversially alongside the flag of St George, he also displayed both THE RED FLAG and the flag of Sinn Fein in the church, which displeased the Church authorities and eventually the Rev Noel was forced to remove the flags in 1922.
