Matt devises special programme talking about issue of race

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

The major non-coronavirus news story this year has to be the increasing racial tensions in many parts of the world, which have focused on the role of police forces worldwide and the mobilisation of ideas such as Black Lives Matter.

One of our presenters Matt Horton, has devised a one hour special – “A Conversation On Race” – in which he will be talking to Antonia Jones about race, opinions, attitudes, feelings and experiences that she and her family have faced.

The aim is not to be a response in any way to protests that have been taking place in the USA or UK but to make people think and create conversation pieces.

I spoke to Matt about the show – he said he thinks it is a great way to capture the mood of the community (and nation) at the moment. People are looking to the media for means of education and information around the issues of race and racism and I agree that it’s important to

It’s a reminder that even in places with low racial diversity there are many issues which affect people in our community on a daily basis in ways that do not affect anyone else.

The show can be heard on Friday 10th July at 7pm on 98.0 FM and online, and will also be added to our website to listen again.
