Blank Generation 20 – It’s only Rat Scabies!
Blank Generation
Steve Green

Imagine my delight when I got a call to ask if I’d be interested in having Rat Scabies as a guest on Blank Generation! The quality of the guests that have agreed to take time out to be interviewed and play their favourite records to date has already been quite surreal, and of course I jumped at the chance to add another punk rock legend in a lockdown rendezvous via Zoom, and the end result is quite incredible.

Everyone knows Rat Scabies was part of punk’s ground zero. Even before he and Brian James invited Dave Vanian and Captain Sensible to form The Damned in 1976 he was part of the scene, having played with Tony James, Mick Jones and Brian James in London SS.

Listen in to hear Rat chat about the Anarchy Tour with the Sex Pistols and The Clash, his friendship and memories of Malcolm Owen, and the huge amount he has achieved since leaving The Damned in 1995 including his current projects. As always he gets to choose 5 records that meant a lot to him pre-punk and another 5 records that he has drummed on or produced, and of course a massive 20 records he thought stood out in the punk years of 1976 – 1980.

Rat Scabies drums on New Rose was the first thing heard on the very first UK punk rock single. The image deserves to be BIG
