The random acts of kindness that make difference to people’s live

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We’ve had a lot of great guests on Phoenix FM over the last couple of months highlighting some of the fantastic work that goes on in our community.

On Saturday, our presenter Spencer Carter chatted to Essex businesswoman Ria Cooper, who manages a Facebook group called “A Random Act Of Kindness UK”.

Ria set the group up with the simple premise that people could share Amazon wishlists and members of the page pick people randomly and send them a gift from the list.

All of the items are very small – but with over 21,000 members the group has now gone global, with features in the Daily Mail and the Sun too.

While we’re all in lockdown it’s a nice, positive thing to be doing to give people a little bit of joy in their lives.

Spencer – whose show The Weekend Wind-Up goes out from 12pm to 3pm every Saturday – chatted with Ria about the group’s success stories and how it has affected the lives of some of our local residents.

The group can be found at https://www.facebook.com/groups/1100614073609947/ and Spencer’s interview can be heard at phoenixfm.com.
