Unibet have announced that all of their planned land-based poker events for 2020 will now be moved to the company’s online poker rooms.
There were three Unibet Open poker events scheduled for the rest of 2020, but those will now be played by entrants via their personal devices rather than in person amidst concerns due to the ongoing Coronavirus pandemic.
The Unibet Open Tallinn had already been combined with the Unibet Online Series prior to this announcement, which means we will not see any Unibet Poker live events until at least 2021. The Unibet Online Series begins on May 1, 2020, with there being €1,000,000 to play for.
Unibet players will also be able to enter Unibet Open Onlines in both September and December in the Fall and Winter editions of the series respectively.
Unibet Head of Events Nataly Sopacuaperu said: “We fully understand the impact to our partners and the land-based venues.
“However, as a priority we must consider not only the health of our customers, but also the difficulty for recreational players with regards to planning trips around uncertainty.”
Head of Poker Kristoffer Bergvall added: “We are all in agreement that this is the best way to ensure the consistency and reliability that people have come to expect from our product, and the online room is better equipped than ever to house our land-based fans.”
Satellites are already running on Unibet for players to win tickets for the 132 events that are scheduled as part of the Unibet Online Series next month. The Unibet Open Main Event is due to take place on May 24, with there being a €1,100 buy-in for players who make it that far in the competition.
