Urgent Volunteer Action – Can you help?

Leader of Brentwood Borough Council, Chris Hossack, is looking for volunteers to help deliver vital supplies and information about how COVID-19 will be affecting local services.

Chris says:

Forgive the short notice email. We are anticipating lots of activity this weekend and for those that are WELL AND ABLE, we can achieve more if we pull together as a TEAM. I know we have some great volunteers out there so am calling on you at this difficult time.

The first task we can engage in is the distribution of an important information leaflet (30,000 of them) that we need to put through the letter boxes of every resident in a short amount of time i.e. while we can ahead of any restrictions in movement

THE LEAFLETS WILL BE READY TO COLLECT FROM THE TOWN HALL ON SATURDAY AT 12 NOON (TOMORROW)

Please muster outside the green doors at the north entrance to collect the delivery round.

There is lots to be delivered so please bring friends and volunteers who are fit an able to help, utilise your networks.

My thanks to those that pulled together to deliver a letter to all our sheltered housing tenants earlier this week, fantastic job.

TOMORROW (MORE TO DO)

We need volunteers to help collect food tomorrow from generous people at our key supermarkets, we trialled this earlier today at Sainsburys and it was a great success. I think we collected over £1000 of food and goods that are now stored at the Town Hall ready to support Foodbank and our in need residents.

Sainsburys are open at 7am tomorrow so we need to some people there, I don’t know when M&S open or Iceland but we could do the same thing there also.

I have arranged for 3 vans to be available so we can have one at each supermarket in the town. If you can help with this tomorrow:

PLEASE MUSTER IN THE TOWN HALL NORTH CAR PARK AT 6.45AM

I will explain what we need to do and give out gloves as we are handling food containers. In short we are looking for non-perishable items with a good shelf life, canned food, dry food, toiletries, cleaning products even pet food.

We have also arranged for food to be dropped at the Town Hall 10-4pm Sat & Sun so we may need some help there too.

PLEASE BE MINDFUL THAT I KNOW WE ARE MEETING IN ONE PLACE BUT TRY TO PRACTICE SOCIAL DISTANCING WHERE POSSIBLE – NOT EASY!

Let me know if you can help. Sorry for short notice, fast moving situation here.
