Hepling fathers to find the support they need after death of a baby

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

Sadly, in the UK the death of a baby is not a rare event. Every 90 minutes – the length of a football match – a baby dies shortly before, during or soon after birth.

This loss is devastating for any family and leaves them trying to come to terms with such a tragedy.

National charity Sands United is a neonatal and stillbirth death charity which supports families during this difficult time.

Wednesday lunchtime presenter James Roast welcomed Adam, Ashley and Matt from Sands United into the Phoenix FM studio to take part in his regular talk show The Happiness Algorithm.

They spoke about how fathers are often overlooked in these situations and how difficult it can be to get support. Sands United helps men break their silence about baby loss and through the medium of playing football and bonding with people who have suffered in similar circumstances.

It’s a fascinating story about how people come to terms with grief and we’re very grateful for Adam, Ashely and Matt for coming in and sharing with our listeners.

The interview can be heard again at phoenixfm.com and Sands United can be reached on www.sandsunitedfc.co.uk.

* Lots more guests coming up in the next seven days. Alex and Andrew from Challenging MND will be talking about their fundraising, and author Rodney Stone will be talking about Your Choice, his book about the dangers of alcohol.

* Singer/songwriter Marina Bottali Price will also be in to chat with Patrick Sherring on Friday Night Extra.
