The first petrol driven car on Essex roads

This afternoon Margaret Mills took us back to the earliest days of motor transport – and the Essex inventor of the first petrol driven vehicle.

His name was Frederick Bremer and he lived in Walthamstow, which was part of Essex, when he first took his car on the road back in 1894.

Indeed a local school bears his name today.
