Now I guess we all know that it’s easy to be confused when trying to buy the cheapest train ticket, but what’s more amazing is that you may be able to fly from Manchester to New York for less than cost of the rail ticket to London.
To illustrate this point one man who recently paid a massive £287 for a standard class return ticket from Manchester on a Virgin Train found that he could have obtained a return flight from Manchester to New York with Air Canada for £286 – a direct flight would have cost £297! Oh and if you are in London you could get a flight to New York next March for £255.
Indeed you could get flights to most European capitals for less.
What’s more the train from Manchester to London was half empty.
Could that have anything to do with the pricing do you think?
I was joined in the second hour of today’s programme by Margaret Mills who was today looking at the village of Birdbrook, near the village of Steeple Bumpstead where it seems that there was an outbreak of multiple marriages – one woman apparently entered into no less than 9 marriages whilst another man also buried in the same churchyard was recorded as having had no less than 7 wives – not all at the same time, I hasten to add.
Listen here to what Margaret reported on these somewhat unique characters: –
See you once more next week,
