It’s all about the law!

After an absence of more than 3 months I was delighted to welcome back BRIAN HUGHES, Consultant Solicitor from Shenfield based RAINER HUGHES.

Brian chose as his subject today the differences between General Partnerships and Limited Liability Partnerships, so if you’re thinking of embarking on a business venture with a colleague you could do worse than listening closely to the advice Brian dispensed today.

This is what Brian had to say on this issue: –

And keeping to matters legal, in the second hour of today’s show we reported on the case of the woman who was arrested, locked up and charged after trying to get her husband to help around the house with the household chores.

Yes I kid you not – and what’s more it happened in Yorkshire.

I wonder how Norah Batty would have got on!

Cleaning firm boss, Valerie Sanders from Catterick was arrested and spent the night in police cells after reportedly asking her husband to help her with some of the household chores.

Apparently she asked him to vacuum and clean the patio doors rather than going to the gym so often.

Incredibly staff at the Jobcentre where her husband Michael worked, reported his unhappy mood to police and she was then prosecuted for “coercive and controlling” behaviour, a new measure that  which came into force in 2015.

Apparently the couple had two miniature dachshunds which Valerie claimed moulted all over the house so she left notes for her husband asking him to vacuum the house and clean the patio doors rather than spending all his time going to the gym and washing his car.

Four police officers arrived in two vans at the couple’s house in April last year, took her to the police station, locked her in the cell for 17 hours and charged her the next day.

After having her house keys confiscated by police, she was forced to stay at a friend’s house.

The case was listed for trial on 25th June and although her “not guilty” plea was accepted before a jury was sworn in, it was done so only with her agreement to abide by a two-year restraining order.

Unsurprisingly the couple are now divorcing, but it’s unclear who will have custody of the dogs.

See you again tomorrow,
Scott
