We caught up with Californian singer/songwriter Little Sister.
Hi Little Sister – tell us a little bit about yourself?
Hi. My name is Audrey Hazel, I’m 28 years young, from Southern California. I write/compose music and I play the drums, bass, guitar as well as sing.
When did you first start to develop a passion for music?
Since my earliest memories. I have a large, lively family so I was exposed to many different styles of music early on. I have always been fascinated by every part music, from
the instrumentation to the performance.
Which artists did you listen to while growing up?
I have gone through so many phases but some of my all-time favourites are The Velvet Underground, Roy Orbison, Yeah Yeah Yeahs, Bjork, Interpol, The Smiths, Portishead, Outkast and Lauryn Hill, just to name a few.
How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?
I would say it has a kinda 90’s California feel.
What music have you recorded and released to date?
I recently released my first Solo EP “Smokey Mirrors” on 20 April 2019 – it’s available on all streaming platforms.
I am currently in the process of recording an album that I am hoping to release in the summer of 2020. Prior to my solo music I released two short albums with a band in 2015
and 2016.
Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?
The last few months I have been listening to a lot of Tennis, Her’s, Leisure, Foxygen, Mr. Twin Sister and Isaac Hayes.
Who would your dream collaboration be with?
I would love to do a song with Regina Spektor or PJ Harvey.
What are your plans for the future?
Planning to travel the world and play music in the long term. In the short term, I am excited to release a music video for the song “Waiting On You”, at the end of this summer. Also excited to perform in Southern California this autumn.
