Bad news for fast food eaters. They could be responsible for the increase in children’s food allergies, type 2 diabetes, heart disease and even some cancers according to latest research. The substances which are highly toxic called AGE’s are found in all food to some degree, but in highly processed foods they are abundant, such as pizza, burgers, bacon and sausages. They increase when the foods are cooked at high temperatures such as baking or frying, rather than steaming or boiling.

The high heat causes the proteins and sugars to react together, making them look temptingly brown, but this is due to the concentration of AGE’s.

Theses toxins occur naturally in other foods, but much lower levels. An average serving of thin crust pizza will contains hundreds more of them than a poached egg.

Scientists have established that large amounts of AGE’s cause the body to react defensively, causing chronic inflammation which can affect our vital organs, causing a range of debilitating conditions and may even contribute to Alzheimer’s.

In a recent survey young children who had severe food allergies were also found to have high concentrations of AGE’s, and these same children also ate more junk food.

It may be no coincidence that children’s food allergies have increased at the same time as our consumption of junk food. No theory adequately explains this but AGE’s may be the missing link.
