Cunning Folk Needs You

Calling all creatives with an affinity for magic, folklore, mythology and the occult; the team behind Cunning Folk are looking for you! Cunning Folk is an ambitious new publication, set for launch in December 2019, and they are accepting unsolicited pitches for personal essays and journalism. The deadline for pitching is 15 June. Pitches should be brief – Cunning Folk do not accept essays or articles on spec.

Personal essay prompts:

How does magic/folklore/mythology/occultism influence your life? Think big or small. Rites of passage. The intersection between magic and other issues, from feminism to mental health. The stories that shaped you. Customs you never realised relied on magical thinking. Familial myths. Rituals. Synchronicities. Archetypes. Forging your identity. What brought you to magic? What does it mean for you? Did you ever lose magic? How did you regain it? Is there a place you can go to re-connect – or is it a mindset?
