The One Hit Wonder World Cup – Round 4

Today we saluted the heroes of D Day, boycotted Twitter and randomly heard all about my Playstation footballer alto-ego “Parker”.

It was also the round 4 of the One Hit Wonder World Cup and we were tasked with filling the last two places in the semifinals. Bob Simpson picked Lou Bega’s “Mambo No.5” to go through as his presenter pick and so the Facebookers were empowered with a vote to determine the best of our four remaining tracks.

It certainly wasn’t forecast but The Weather Girls went home without a single vote. The Knack’s “My Sharona” (or “My Sharon’s” as predictive text would prefer!) clocked 21% of your vote with Norman Greenbaum’s “Spirit In The Sky” winding up just short of the place that’s the best with 29%. All this meant that Carl Douglas’ “Kung Foo Fighting” successfully fought it’s way to the last spot in the semifinals.

Tomorrow, we’ll launch the vote for our two semifinals from 3pm but as it’s Film Friday there’ll be a one hit wonder amnesty. A day off from the heat of the competition to steady our nerves!

You’ll be able to vote on semifinal 1 on the Phoenix FM Facebook page and you can vote on semifinal 2 via Twitter @StewPink or @PhoenixFM until Sunday night.

If you missed it, I’ll be putting together a mix of the best bits from my Drivetime cover on my regular podcast. Just search “Stewart Pink” wherever you get your podcasts from and if you’re a fan of my shows then be sure to tune in for my regular hangouts – I present The As Yet Untitled Rock Show every Tuesday from 10pm and The One2Three Show every Friday from 1pm.
