Menopause can be a difficult time of life for some women. Not only are they experiencing the symptoms but they are often part of the sandwich generation, looking after children as well as caring for elderly parents and it can be a very stressful time indeed.

Many of the symptoms of menopause like memory loss and forgetfulness only serve to make more stress in an already trying situation. Some worry that they may even be suffering from dementia, the symptoms are so severe.

Weight gain can also be a problem, due to a change in metabolism. Eating when stressed leads to more weight gain, chronic stress alone can cause weight gain, but combined with environmental factors the body’s storage system goes into overload. A high stress environment combined with  eating high calorie foods is a lethal combination and a major contributor to obesity. Not only do we have emotional reasons to comfort eat but the environment we live in is designed to offer easily accessible unhealthy foods. Take aways are now able to arrive at the swipe of a finger on your phone in less time than it takes to prepare something healthy.

The ideal solution is to remove some of the stress, delegate some of your jobs so you can have a little more free time to nourish yourself, not only with healthy food but taking time to meditate, do an exercise class or just spend some time out in nature. Without respite stress can take a major toll on your health.
