Brentwood Suffer Away Defeat At Grays Athletic

Grays Athletic 3 Brentwood Town 0

Bostik North

Satruday 13th April

Report by Ken Hobbs

Brentwood suffered a third successive away defeat despite a strong second half performance when they created enough chances to get a result in this match.

Brentwood had a setback just a quarter of an hour into the game when centre back John Easterford had to come off injured, Connor Martin coming off the bench to replace him. The visitors then went 1-0 down when former Town midfielder Mitch Hahn headed Grays in front in the 21st minute.

The lead was short-lived as Mitch Hunter scored from a yard out two minutes later following Albert Levett’s free kick from the left, but the home side were back in front five minutes before half time through 16-year-old Jacob Hutchinson who scored from Jamie Hursit’s cross.

Grays’ Correy Davidson hit the Brentwood crossbar in the 49th minute but the visitors began to dominate and created good chances for Danny Hurford, Kojo Apenteng and Connor Martin. As Brentwood continued to press for an equaliser, they were caught on the break in the 86th minute when Ryan Mahal set up Hutchinson for his second goal of the afternoon.

Brentwood Town: Pellin, Fox, Hunter, Carter (Hilton 56), Gordon, Easterford (Martin 16), Apenteng, Levett, Hughes, Mallett, Hurford (Nche 83).
