On today’s show we looked at a new line in clothing being offered by the convicted notorious drug lord, El Chapo.
Well he may have been convicted and potentially facing the rest of his life behind bars, but amazingly he’s just signed a contract from his cell in a Manhattan federal prison granting rights to his name and signature to a limited company called “EL CHAPO GUZMAN” which will feature his signature on the brand logo.
The company will actually be run by his 29-year old wife, EMMA CORONEL AISPURO.
The former beauty queen told reporters that the company would start by marketing a range of caps, which they hope will be followed by other clothes, like jackets – seems like they are already marketing shirts!
The company could be hoping to circumvent US laws preventing criminals from making money from within prison, by starting their marketing operations in Mexico by way of their official website which is already up and running.
But before you consider, that it might be cool to buy garments bearing the El Chapo name and signature, you might want to consider some of the crimes of which he is convicted, including drugging and raping girls as young as 13.
It has also been alleged that he has ordered hit-men to have carried out hundreds of killings, so you may want to take a close look at their returns policy!
In the second hour today I had a bonus as my partner in crime on our BYGONES feature, Margaret Mills came in with a review of a book by John Guy about Mary Queen of Scots.
If you missed it listen out here to see whether this book might appeal to you for your summer holiday reading: –
See you again tomorrow:-
