Household products may not be all that they seem. We may check the ingredients on food labels, but maybe we don’t check the contents of other products that we are using which may be to our detriment.
Make-up,skin care and hygiene products could be exposing us to a lethal cocktail.
Ethyl paraben is added to many products as a preservative to extend shelf life. All parabens can disrupt the delicate endocrine system in our bodies, including the pituitary gland, pancreas and ovaries. Disruption of this system can lead to anything from infertility, disruptive menopause and infertility. They may alter the release of oestrogen, and you don’t need to have much to cause a big difference in your body and it may even have links to breast cancer.
Parfum or fragrance is an umbrella term for hundreds of ingredients. Rather than having to list each scent, manufacturers can put them all under the term fragrance, which includes around 4,000 different products. 338 fragrance chemicals have been found in personal care products and three quarters of these have links to cancer. Perfumes tested in the lab often contain hormone disrupting chemicals, they are manufactured to last longer on the skin.
Manufacturers assure us that they do go to great lengths to ensure that their products are safe, but nevertheless, maybe we ouht to be a little more vigilant in our label reading before we use the products.
