We’re currently featuring Proper Einstein’s new single “Light Bulbs” on heavy rotation here on Phoenix FM … and we caught up with him to find out all about the man and his music.

Tell us a little bit about your yourself?

I’m 30 years old. I was born and raised in Swainsboro, a small town in Georgia, USA.

When did you first start to develop a passion for music?

I played the trombone in middle school so that was when I actually started. One of my old friends had a game on the Playstation 1 console that enabled you to create beats from preset templates. I played it one day and fell in love with it. I remember looking back at the screen because I had to leave, like it was the last time I’ll ever play it (and it was). One day I learned about software called Fruity Loops that was a more advanced approach. I downloaded the software and the rest is history. Before I started producing, I started dancing a few months prior, so that really helped me with my rhythm.

Which artists did you listen to while growing up?

I listened to mostly rap and R’n’B growing up. I enjoyed artist like Tupac, Snoop Dogg, Usher, Micheal Jackson and Justin Timberlake. My dad introduced me to Prince and The Isley Brothers. When I got a little older I started listening to all genres and many different artists.

How would you describe your music to someone who hasn’t heard you before?

I would say it has different elements from more than one style. It’s hard to compare myself to another artist or one particular style. My single Light Bulbs in particular could be considered as Grunge Hop.

What music have you recorded and released to date?

I have released two albums which are The Musical Genius (2016) and WTMF (2018). I have one EP released, Ready Set Go (2016) and a forthcoming EP called The Reject, which will be released on 26 February 2019. I also have 6 singles released to date which are #Latenite (2015), A Couple Thousand (2015), Press Record (2016), Colors (2016), Shake Em Off (2017), and Light Bulbs (2018).

Which artists do you enjoy listening to at the moment – and do they influence your work?

I enjoy listening to The Weeknd before his rise to fame; Beck; and older punk rock bands such as Sum 41 and Alien Ant Farm. Anything that isn’t mainstream. The music and artists I listen to equally influence my creativity but you may not hear it through my sound.

Who would your dream collaboration be with?

When I first heard Ellie Goulding’s voice, I was amazed. That is still my number one dream collab for some reason lol. I would like to work with Kanye West because he is my favorite producer. There are too many to name.

What are your plans for the future?

To keep making music and reach and relate to every person of the world. Since music is universal, it is very possible. I also would love to tour which may be soon.
