How are you doing with your New Year’s Resolutions? Have they fallen by the wayside yet? If you are still sticking to them it’s extremely good, but according to research you are most likely to have stopped by Valentine’s Day.

It’s difficult to keep our brains fixated on one thing for that long without reviewing your goals and setting new targets. The key is to keep it interesting, and if we’re not seeing results we get  easily sidetracked.

If our resolutions were easy we wouldn’t need them because we’d be doing it anyway!! We tend to have the same ones each year because they just don’t work.

It is uniquely human to make these resolutions, we can choose goals beyond survival and have more abstract goals, we even crave these goals. Keeping that desire going is the important thing, and to occupy our attention span, we are very easily distracted.

The most common resolution is weight loss. It’s easy to lose weight at first, and you may lose weight quickly at first and then ig slows down and so does our resolve! It’s hard to combat the withdrawal symptoms of giving up smoking or sugar or alcohol or whatever it is that you want to give up. Being round others who are smoking etc is hard to deal with too.

Today everything is geared towards Apps and social media,so it would be very difficult to give that up, we’re social creatures and have a real need to stay connected.

The stress of trying to change your lifestyle is also enough to make you revert back to normal habits.

Be prepared for the plateau, and know what to expect, and allow yourself a little slip, but select clear goals, and think about why you made the resolution in the first place. Think about what you want to achieve and why, and constantly review your progress and remind yourself of how far you’ve come. You can succeed at whatever you want to do!!
