“I’m not the only one who struggles to get an appointment with the GP”

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

It may be Christmas but we’re still on air all day long with lots of local people, businesses and community groups coming in to talk about who they are and what they do.

Our daytime host Michelle Ward was joined by Rachel Horton-Smyth from Healthwatch Essex last week.

Healthwatch Essex is an independent voice for the people of Essex, gathering people’s views about health and care services in the county to help improve them.

Healthwatch’s advice has been very useful indeed. I’m sure I’m not the only person who finds it difficult to book an appointment with my local GP – Healthwatch are running a campaign to let people know that they can get out of hours appointments now at evenings and weekends, which is something I’ve found people have been very interested in!

Rachel’s interview can be heard again at phoenixfm.com and if you’re interested in Healthwatch’s work you can visit their website at www.healthwatchessex.org.uk.

* Saturday marks the 22nd anniversary of our first ever FM broadcast to the airwaves of Brentwood – although that was for the first of our 12 temporary 28-day licences we were awarded between 1996 and 2006, and we tend to celebrate our “real” birthday in March!

* Phoenix FM will continue to broadcast 24 hours a day throughout the New Year period. If you’d like to get involved with our broadcasts as an interview guest or a volunteer, please contact us at radio@phoenixfm.com.
