The festive season is upon us and the challenge now is how to survive it. We will all over indulge to a greater or lesser degree and here are a few tips to keep you on the straight and narrow.

The first and most obvious tip is if you’re drinking alcohol, try to drink plenty of water with it,this will help to slow down your drinking pace and keep you hydrated.  Apparently some research has been done as to what may be the best hangover cure, and it isn’t black coffee or greasy fry ups, it’s actually Sprite!! I’ve yet to try it but certainly worth a go should the worst happen.

A brisk walk, a light jog or a swim will help to wear off some of the extra calories we’ve consumed. As long as you don’t go too mad over too many days it should be easy enough to get back on track.

Sleep deprivation is another problem, combined with the usual excesses it can make you feel less than able to get through the day. Try and get a catnap or two through the next day it will brighten you up and help you get through until it’s actually bedtime. Do not turn to the many caffeinated drinks that are available, This is a temporary fix and can end up making you feel much worse when the party season is over. Lemons are full of electrolytes and some warm lemon juice will help you detox and set you up for the day, and try at least to have a healthy breakfast and line your stomach before the celebrations begin.

Try to have as much fun as possible, and if you are on your own, Christmas can be a lonely time, so try to make the effort to connect with others which eases the silence. If you know of others in the same situation, maybe talk to them and spread some happiness by giving your time to someone who needs it.

Above all, look after yourself and have the best time you can.

A very Merry Christmas to you all
