Essex Senior League – Saturday 15th December Round-Up

Report & Photo by Peter Dudley

Friday

Barkingside P-P Walthamstow

Woodford Town P-P Southend Manor

Both Friday night games were postponed, the match at Cricklefield due to parts of the pitch being frozen and the one at The Harlow Arena due to health and safety issues regarding the heating at the ground.  New dates will be announced in due course.

Saturday

Clapton P-P Hullbridge Sports

The match at The Old Spotted Dog was postponed due to an unplayable surface.  A new date will be announced soon.

Leyton Athletic 0 Hoddesdon Town 2

Visitors Hoddesdon netted twice in the first half hour to net victory at strugglers Leyton Athletic.  Jack Lee opened the scoring in the fifth minute and they doubled that lead just before the half hour mark through Oliver Gnandi and remain in eight spot following this win, whilst Leyton stay second bottom.

Redbridge 1 Sporting Bengal United 2

Visitors Sporting came from behind to net all three points at Oakside against Redbridge.  Brian Kyunga put The Motormen ahead in just the fifth minute but Steve Carvell then netted a leveller twelve minutes later before Jason Ngandu netted what proved to be the winner just past the half hour mark and saw the visitors into sixth whilst hosts Redbridge slip to fourth bottom.

Saffron Walden Town 3 Stansted 5

Callum Ibe netted a first half brace as Stansted netted five in an extraordinary derby victory against Saffron Walden Town.  Ibe curled the visitors ahead in the eighth minute before Connor Hammond netted a penalty in the 17th minute to double his sides lead.  Spike Bell, who was making his 400th appearance for the Bloods netted one back in the 21st minute before a controversial own goal after visiting keeper Turner appeared to be bundled into the net brought Walden level six minutes before the break.  But Ibe then netted from close range in first half stoppage time to restore the visitors lead, but the hosts saw Lewis Francis level from the spot just before the hour, however Jack Mitchell again restored the Airportmen’s lead minutes later.  And with five minutes remaining substitute James Peagram volleyed home on debut to seal this absorbing contest and sent the visitors back to the summit of the league.  Walden remain in fourth.

Sawbridgeworth Town 2 Stanway Rovers 0

The Robins gained revenge for their defeat at The Hawthorns recently by defeating Stanway Rovers at Crofters.  Julien Lloyd gave Sawbo a sixth minute lead before the returning Lewis Deamer, out for almost four months through injury, netted the hosts second four minutes into the second period, and see the hosts in ninth, whilst Rovers now drop to 14th.

St Margaretsbury 1 Enfield 2

Enfield netted a superb come from behind win at The Recreation Ground against St Margaretsbury to end a rather difficult run in the process.  Charncey Dash gave the hosts an eight minute lead but the visitors showed great character to fight back and level through Daniel Chambers on the hour mark before Matt Thoma’s late winner gave Enfield all three points, lifting them into 15th whilst the Bury Boys drop to tenth.

Tower Hamlets A-A Ilford

The match at Mile End was abandoned at half time with the score at 0-0 after the referee deemed the conditions unplayable.  The game will be rescheduled in due course.
