Have you heard of GENDER REVEAL PARTIES?
Basically the idea is employ a stunt that is intended to reveal the sex of your unborn child.
Well one such party arranged by Dennis Dickey of Arizona went disastrously wrong.
He came up with the hair brained scheme to fire a gun at a target that would then explode with either pink or blue powder.
However, the 37-year-old had also packed the target with the legal but explosive compound Tannerite.
When Dickey fired the rifle, his gunshot ignited the nearby dry grass and trees. The flames spread rapidly and took 800 firefighters a week to get under control. Known as the Sawmill fire, it raged along Arizona’s Highway 83 and forced hundreds of people from their homes.
Luckily there were no injuries and no buildings were destroyed but Mr Dickey has been told he is liable to pay for compensation of – wait for it £6,422,000!
He has already agreed to make an initial payment of £100k although local newspaper reports have suggested that he may not be liable for the full amount as he has agreed to star in public service videos warning against copycat attempts.
Oh and the sex of the child? It was a boy!
Later in the show I was joined by Margaret Mills who had news about an Essex based entrepreneur who was based in Tiptree. John Mechi was his name and as you might guess with a name like that, he was actually of Italian parentage although born in London. He had an interesting life and if you missed the details, you can listen again here: –
See you again next time,
