There’s trouble at mill!

Well not quite but we heard reports today of two incidents involving the police – admittedly almost 180 years apart!

First off we heard about the 20-year old beautician who fell fowl of the law after she claimed that the implants in her lips made it impossible to use a breathalyser.

When stopped by police in Manchester city centre she was found to be over the limit after drinking Pink Gins with a friend. But when at the police station she was asked to provide a second, more accurate sample after four attempts she said her collagen implants made it difficult to get her mouth around the tube.

As a result she was charged with failing to provide a breath sample and according to prosecutors, tried to avoid conviction by saying she was unable to blow for ‘medical reasons’.

Her lawyer Matthew Wallace said: ‘Along with the current trend, she has collagen implants in her lips which is something that caused her due difficulty in forming a seal around the tube.

She has now been banned from driving for 16 months and ordered to pay £310 in fines and costs.

And her father sold the car the day after her arrest.

For our second incident today, Margaret Mills related the story of striking bricklayers, supposedly working on the construction of the new railway line between London and Chelmsford.

Having already been in trouble with the magistrates, as striking was illegal back in April 1839, a number of the individuals then became involved in a brawl in the church in Writtle.

Hardly seems a very appropriate place to engage in a bust up!
