On today’s feature, Margaret Mills took us back to the 19th April 1839 with the story of striking bricklayers, supposedly working on the construction of the new railway line between London and Chelmsford.

Having already been in trouble with the magistrates, as striking was illegal back in April 1839, a number of the individuals then became involved in a brawl in the church in Writtle.

 

Hardly seems a very appropriate place to engage in a bust up!
