Keeping strong links with community

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

At Phoenix FM we try not to just concentrate on making radio programmes but also strive to keep strong links with our local community.

This year we have hosted The Phoenix Family – a series of events at Shenfield Cricket Club where we meet up with presenters, supporters, sponsors and some of the many community groups and charities that we give airtime to every year.

Our most recent event last week was our most successful yet, with a record turnout, live music from wonderful local singer Keeley Smith, and fundraising events including an auction which raised £810 for Saint Francis Hospice.

The events not only help us secure funding to continue our broadcasts but also put us in touch with lots of potential new guests who invariably end up on the station spreading the word about the good work they do in Brentwood.

We’d like to thank everyone for turning up and extend our gratitude to Rainer Hughes solicitors who kindly sponsored our most recent event.

Future events are held on the second Thursday of every month and you can contact Steve Roach on 07952 498009 for more details.

* Lots more live music planned over the next seven days including live sessions in the studio from Two Year Break, The Lightscopes, John Paul Elliott and Tai, who was a semi-finalist in this year’s The Voice on BBC TV.
