The latest from the Lakeside Speedway Press Office…
LAKESIDE are looking to book their place in the Championship Shield Final when they travel to Peterborough later (Sunday, 5pm).
The Hammers head to the East of England Arena with a 10-point advantage following their 50-40 first leg win over the Panthers on Saturday.
But they’ll be without Ben Morley and Alfie Bowtell who are competing in the National League Riders’ Championship at Leicester.
Team Manager Will Pottinger explained: “With those two representing the Isle of Wight in the NLRC earlier in the day it left us with a bit of a dilemma.
“That is scheduled for a 1pm start but there was too much risk including them in our line-up.
“Even if everything was to run smoothly, that’s probably not going to finish until 3pm then the meeting at Peterborough gets underway at 5pm and it’s just asking way too much of both riders.
“But as well you never know what could happen machinery wise, injury wise, incident wise so we felt we needed to be safe rather than sorry in such an important meeting.
“Just imagine if we’d have included them, something happens at the NLRC and we ended up running a five-man team at Peterborough!
“So in Josh Pickering, Kasper Andersen and Jason Edwards, we feel we’ve booked three very useful guests as we aim to defend our 10-point lead.
“We know we’ve got the riders to put in a good performance at Peterborough and hopefully we can reach our first final of the season.”
