Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette
Rev Patrick Sherring is a very well known figure in his local community of Ingatestone. He’s rector of Ingatestone & Fryerning, Chair of Churches Together, a school governor – and of course a columnist in the Brentwood Gazette!
Patrick has also been broadcasting a regular show, Friday Night Extra, on Friday evenings since June 2011, and has barely missed a week in that time. His show highlights a lot of the unsung heroes in the church and community in Ingatestone and beyond and has a solid following in the parish.
One such hero is Rob Saggs, from homeless charity CHESS Homeless, which supports people in Chelmsford, Maldon and Epping Forest.
He came in to talk on air with Patrick about the ever-increasing need for their services, the people that the charity has been helping recently and increasing issues with drug gangs coming from London.
CHESS Homeless are always seeking volunteers to add to their existing number of over eighty. An important role is fundraising and organising events – they organise an annual sleepout in the grounds of Chelmsford Cathedral, which this year will be taking place on 30 November.
You can hear Rob’s interview again on phoenixfm.com and more information about the organisation can be found at www.chesshomeless.org.
* More guests coming up on air in the next seven days include Amy Clayton and actors from Early Doors who will be talking to Naomi Sayers about their new play Frankenstein on Feelgood Saturday.
* Laura Cook from the Beeches will also be in for her regular chat about the home’s events and activities.
* There will also be live music in the studio from Last Known State and Colina Pearl.
