Essex County Cricket Club have announced that Rishi Patel has signed his first professional contract and will stay with the Club until the end of the 2020 season.

The 20-year-old has been in prolific form for the 2nd XI side this campaign, and recently equalled Darren Robinson’s record of 5 centuries in a 2nd XI Championship season.

He was rewarded for his performances by being selected for the team to face India during the Tourist match back in July, where he hit 19 runs and caught Hardik Pandya.

Patel is thrilled to sign his first professional contract and said: “I’m really excited to be part of such a great Club and sign for the side that I have been involved with since I was 7 years old.

“I’m extremely thankful to the coaching staff that have helped me achieve my dreams of becoming a professional, and I’d like to thank my parents who have supported me throughout this journey and have been there every step of the way.”
