Essex Senior League
Clapton’s 3-0 win at Barkingside on Friday evening makes Saturday’s fixtures interesting as that result hauled the Tons up to second, while Barkingside currently sit eighteenth. It means that Tower Hamlets, currently bottom of the table, have a chance to haul themselves out of the drop zone if they can get a result at Saffon Walden Town. The Bloods currently sit seventh, and are unbeaten in the league, but having had the shock of losing to Step 6 side May & Baker in the Vase last weekend, now go into this game minus manager Stuart Wardley who left the club by mutual consent during the week. There could be a bit of a hangover experienced over at Catons Road and Tower Hamlets will certainly hope so as they look to try and post their first win of the season.
The game of the day though has to be at Station Road as Takeley, currently in third, host current leaders Hullbridge Sports. Both clubs have made their ambitions to move up into the Bostik League clear and both have made a useful start on the pitch to make good on those ambitions. This game could therefore have some bearing as the season goes on. A home win would see Takeley take the pole position for themselves, but Hullbridge will arrive with an unbeaten league record and will also be up for a tight contest. Fourth-placed Ilford travel to St. Margaretbury; while Stansted will be hoping to continue their decent start to the season by beating a West Essex side whose Monday night win at Barkingside elevated them up fourteenth. Throw in last weekend’s Vase win at Stotfold and you have a side that looks like they have finally managed to quick start their 2018/19 campaign.
