Ever wondered why there is such a diversity of wild flowers around here?

Paul Golder writes for the Brentwood Gazette

We were joined in the studio last week by Christine Townley from Billericay’s Mill Meadows Society.

The Mill Meadows Society was awarded a Heritage Lottery Fund Grant last year to install new footpaths, bridges and informative trails around the 90-acre nature reserve.

The grant will also go to researching and interpreting the history, an art exhibition and a new website.

Christine came in to talk to Scott Ross about how centuries of grazing have created the ideal conditions for a wonderful diversity of wild flowers, fungi, insects and invertebrates, many of which are rare.

Christine’s interview can be heard again at www.phoenixfm.com and Mill Meadows has its own website at www.millmeadows.org.uk.

* Lots more guests coming up over the next seven days. Abby Knight and Mary Anne McGuiggan will also be chatting to Bob about their forthcoming Health & Wellbeing Festival talking place at Greenwoods Hotel and Spa in Stock.

* Gogglebox’s Sandra Martin will be chatting on the phone to Maria Rubia on her Saturday evening show The Whole Package/

* There will also be live music in the studio from Forged In Black, D’Ukes and Adam Duffill.
