Chesterfield vs Leyton Orient: PREVIEW

The Orient Hour’s Chris Hood looks ahead to the match…

Orient travel to Chesterfield tomorrow in the National League (kick-off 3pm) as they continue on their run of long Saturday away trips.  Orient arrive at the Proact off of the back of a good Bank Holiday weekend where they earned four points, coming back from a goal and a man down to draw away at Gateshead on Saturday and comprehensively beating Dover 3-0 on Monday at Brisbane Road.

Orient are one of only three teams yet to taste defeat in the National League this season, 3rd and 4th placed Fylde and Harrogate the others – The O’s finding themselves well placed in 5th in the early part of the season, only two points off FC Halifax in top spot.

The O’s have been productive at both ends of the pitch in the last four matches, scoring seven and conceding only two, resulting in three wins.  This contrasts starkly with opponents Chesterfield who have lost their last four, conceding eight and scoring four, but going goalless in the last two.  Those two matches resulted in 1-0 defeats at home to Barnet and away at Hartlepool over the Bank Holiday weekend.

Relegated from the Football League last season, and with Martin Allen at the helm making a number of changes, The Spireites made a good start, winning their opening three matches, but now find themselves 15th and closer to the relegation zone than the playoffs points-wise.

HEAD-2-HEAD

The two sides have played each other 25 times previously and are split right down the middle with eight wins each and nine draws.  When the sides last played, back on Valentines Day 2015, The O’s made off with all three points, winning 3-2 at the Proact thanks to Dean Cox’s 90th minute winner.

TEAM NEWS

On Friday, Orient announced the signing of winger Levi Lumeka on a season long loan from Crystal Palace.  The 19 year old winger has been Development Team top scorer for The Eagles for the last three seasons and goes straight into the squad for the match.

James Alabi serves the second game of his three match suspension after seeing red against Gateshead.  George Elokobi and James Brophy are still recovering from hamstring injuries which will see them out for a number of weeks.

For the opposition, Martin Allen has promised changes to the side which lost 1-0 to Hartlepool, with Jerome Binnom-Williams returning after a three match ban, and Will Evans 50/50.  The O’s are likely to encounter a familiar face in former captain Robbie Weir, who now does the same job for The Spireites.
