The Two Pauls – McCartney and Carrack

I found it a bit odd today that I played two new tracks from artists named Paul that were early releases from their forthcoming new albums, both to be released on 7th September! The parallels don’t end there either, but more on that later.

The first was a great new single from Paul McCartney. I guess that at the age of 76 many people may think that it’s time Paul packed it in. Certainly his voice is not what it once was, but in the new single “Fuh You” (or as it’s called in the clean radio edit “For You”) McCartney is breaking into unfamiliar territory for him. The song is very “now” no doubt due to the influence of Grammy-winning hitmaker Ryan Tedder.

The song has already offended some of the more conservative radio stations in the US – and it was only revealed yesterday.

“I just wanna know how you feel, I want a love that’s so proud and real,” he sings in the chorus, “You make me want to go out and steal/I just want it fuh you.”  McCartney, who used the word “raunchy” to describe the tune, wouldn’t be surprised if you misheard that last line. The song will appear on his upcoming album, Egypt Station, due out September 7th.

Also due out on 7th September is “These Days” a brand new studio album from Paul Carrack. The lead track from this is “Cold Light of Day”

In addition to the release of ‘These Days’, Paul Carrack will embark on an extensive 30-date UK tour for 2019, which begins on 18th January in Liverpool’s Philharmonic Hall, and ends on 24th March at The Lowry in Salford. On 1st March next year Paul will be at The Cliffs Pavillion in Southend.

I’m very much hoping to be chatting to Paul Carrack on the show at some point in the next few weeks, watch this space!

In the meantime, if the other Paul would also like to pop into the studio for a chat he would be welcome any time!

And finally, another parallel – Paul Carrack toured with Ringo Starr’s All Starr Band. I think McCartney did a bit of work with Ringo too!
