Friends Kelly Paveley and Tracy Windle will tackle their third mud run for their local charity, Saint Francis Hospice.

The event will take place at the famous Nuclear Races in Kelvedon, Brentwood, on Sunday 7th October, where participants will fly across the Zip Wire and glide down the Slide of Death. The course combines 5km of woodland, lakes and bogs to put contestants to the ultimate physical test.

The duo from Collier Row completed their first race for the Hospice seven years ago and decided to return after seeing their photo promoting this year’s Mission Mud on the charity’s Facebook page.

Kelly, who now works as an administrator at Drapers Academy, spent many years managing local pubs including the Aspen Tree in Collier Row where she met Tracy. This time the pair will be joined by another friend from their time at the pub for the physical challenge.

“We’ve always said we would do the mud run again but have never got round to it. So when we saw our photo used to promote this year’s mud run on Facebook, it felt like a sign and we knew we had to sign up!” said Kelly, 34.

“From running a couple of pubs in the area I know how close to people’s hearts Saint Francis Hospice is.

“My partner’s grandad also spent his last days in the Hospice’s care and the love he was shown was unbelievable.”

Tracy, 31, who works in the Aspen Tree pub said, “We absolutely love doing the mud run, it’s so much fun and a great way to raise lots of money for our local charity.”

Tracy plans on receiving donations from friends, family and regular punters. Meanwhile, Kelly hopes to get lots of sponsors from people at the school and her close family and friends.

Check in is from 9:30am with the race starting at 11:00am. Tickets are currently on a flash sale until the 30th August, with adult tickets reduced to £45 and £40 for children aged 13-17.

Saint Francis Hospice asks that everyone pledges to raise £120 which will pay for over two hours of their Hospice at Home care. So your mission if you choose to accept it is to get muddy and go orange!
