A period of silence from you would be welcome!

Do you know anyone who never knows when to “button it”?

Oh to have the power to actually do something about!

Well one man who does have that power is US Judge John Russo from Cuyoga County, Ohio, who ordered court officers to gag a convict appearing before him, who wouldn’t stop interrupting him.

The judge had warned prisoner, Franklyn Williams, to belt up no less than 12 times over the course of half an hour.

Williams, who was being sentenced for armed robbery, had talked almost continuously during the hearing.

As Williams said “I’m not being allowed to speak how I need to speak”, officers in the courtroom ripped off a 15in-long piece of red duct tape and placed it over his mouth.

A second piece of tape was required soon after to prevent Williams from complaining about the gag.

The judge later told reporters that he had presided over 3 previous cases involving the same defendant, who was known to like the sound of his own voice.

The judge went on, “Everybody has the opportunity to speak in my court but we can’t have people yelling over each other.

“So my intent today was never to silence Mr Williams. I gave him an opportunity to speak when it was appropriate but he continued to speak over me.”

Mr Williams was eventually sentence to 24 years in jail for aggravated robbery, kidnapping and theft.

Well that should keep him quiet for a bit!

In the second hour of today’s programme, Margaret Mills stopped by to tell us all about the First World War aerodrome at Stow Maries.

If you missed it you can listen again here to what Margaret had to say on this amazing place:-

See you again next week,
