How do you feel about drivers from abroad managing to avoid fines for motoring offences?

Well get this a British tourist visiting Dubai has managed to clock up £35,000 speeding fines in just 3 hours.

The 25-year-old driver, who is staying at the Five Star FIVE PALM JUMEIRAH HOTEL AND RESORT, was snapped by roadside cameras as he broke the limit 33 times in a £270,000 Lamborghini Huracan and is now in a stand-off with the rental firm.

He was actually recorded as hitting 150 Mph as he triggered every speed camera on the Sheikh Zayed Road

Incredibly the driver is free to leave Dubai as the fines are issued in the car owner’s name.

But there is a snag as he left his passport as a guarantee with the car hire company.

Should he go to his embassy and successfully claim he has lost his passport they could theoretically issue a replacement.

However as the rental company has informed the embassy that they have the passport, this option might prove tricky.

So right now the stand off continues.

Meanwhile over in Saudi Arabia a new phone app designed to monitor sermons in mosques has been introduced.

According to the country’s Minister of Islamic Affairs, Abdul Latif Al-Sheikh, the application will allow for the monitoring of mosques, with the length and quality of sermons “assessed by the minute and second”, although it’s not entirely clear who exactly will be doing the monitoring, but it’s thought that regular mosque-goers will be able to rate their preacher on a number of aspects of their work.

It conjures up images of worshippers holding up boards with marks on as they do at skating competitions.

I can think of one or two places such an app could be put to good use here!

See you again tomorrow,
Scott
