Friday Night Extra 13.7.18 Ingatestone Summer show & Summer of 1976

Sarah Duke-Wooley from the organising committee of the Ingatestone & Fryerning Horticultural Society joined me to talk about the annual Summer Show that is celebrating its 52nd year. The event is on 21st of July at Seymour Field, just to the north of the village centre on the road to Chelmsford. She told us about the wide range of event, including country dancing, a dog show , a gymnastics display and a marching pipe band. There will also be stalls, BBQ, bar and an exhibition marquee. Everything begins at 12.30 with the marquee opening at 2pm. There is also a scarecrow competition.  Clearly a fun afternoon not to be missed.

In the second hour we focused on music from 1976, a summer that was really long and hot. We also looked at how prices had dramatically increased in the forty two years. Listeners were encouraged to guess the cost of a new Ford Cortina Mark 4. The highest suggestion was £3000, the lowest £300. The correct answer was £!960. Everyone, including a number of teenagers listening, stated how they loved the music from that year. Some real classics.

Tonight’s playlist

La La Land soundtrack – Another day of sun

Jimmie Rogers – English country garden – chosen by Sarah

Goodbye Look – Eye to eye – so many listeners commented how they love this track by a local band.

Dolly Parton – Jolene

Peter Frampton – Show me the way – loved by Rene

Queen – Your my best friend – a number of listeners, including Chris in Harlow, told us they had been to the Queen with Adam Lambert concert last weekend at the O2 and that they were fabulous.

Rocky theme. The biggest film of the year.

Sweeney theme 1976 TV

Stevie Wonder – Village Ghetto land, Another star – from the album Songs in the key of life

Eagles – Taking it easy

Leo Sayer – You make me feel like dancing – Jonty’s favourite 1976 track. Chris in Harlow said all these tracks made her feel old as she could remember them!
