We reported today on how one Chinese educational body plans to enliven their annual Sports Day.
Yes, believe it or not, they’ve dropped events such as the javelin and discus and replaced them with grenade-tossing.
Students taking part in the new programme will now be throwing wood handled grenades based on the German World War 2 stick grenade which was later adapted by the Chinese military.
We can but assume that they will not be using live grenades!
Margaret Mills returned today to tell us about a rather unsuccessful piece of equipment – THE DARBY DIGGER – designed by a Wickford based industrialist, Thomas Churchman Darby.
