Billericay Blog: Just 2 League Games To Go

🔵⚪️🔵 Billericay Town FC 🔵⚪️ Just 2 League Games To Go

It’s been a good week, 3 league wins in 5 days has kept the team at the top of the league with a 4 point gap over Dulwich going into the final 2 league games of the season.

On Tuesday we beat Dorking 1-0 away, it was a hard fought match on a difficult pitch, but a wins a win. On Thursday we beat Needham Market 5-0 at home, it was an entertaining match with plenty of action as well as another hat trick from top scorer Jake Robinson. The week finished at Margate on a very warm day with the third win of the week 2-1. It was a well contested game between two good teams, Billericay’s goal keeper making some excellent saves. (Alan Julian has been excellent all season and has had 21 clean sheets.)

Jake Robinson has scored 57 goals, 34 in the league which equals Leon Gutzmore’s record of 34, he can expect to break that record with 2 league games remaining. (Jake has scored 7 hat tricks)

We’ve played 72 games in all competitions, scored 194 goals and scored in the last 71 games. Many records have been broken this season by a squad of players that have worked hard throughout the season. The coaching staff should be proud of their achievements to date, 2 cups won and automatic promotion is possible, the club need 3 points to guarantee it.

The final week is going to be a big week, Tuesday 24th April we play at home to Harlow Town FC and Saturday 28th April we are home to Folkestone, a win on Tuesday guarantees promotion, hopefully it will be in front of a big crowd, I don’t think my nerves will survive until Saturday. Our only rivals to the automatic promotion place Dulwich are away to Kingstonian mid week and home to Margate on Saturday, Margate are just outside the playoff places and will need to win.

I’m hoping my final blog next week will be celebrating automatic promotion, the final part of the objective Glenn Tamplin put in place at the start of the season. Without the investment of GT we would not have had such an exciting and enjoyable season + Harry Wheeler/Danny Hazle have coached the team well throughout the season, the fans have a lot to thank them for. The players have worked hard playing 3 games a week since February, it wouldn’t be fair to single individuals out, but goals and clean sheets win games.
