On today’s show, I welcomed Victoria Copeland and Alex Thurgood who are taking part in the Three Peaks Challenge to raise money for The Maddi Foundation.
The challenge sees them (hopefully) scaling Snowdon, Scafell Pike and Ben Nevis – a total ascent of over 3000m (10,000ft) but with an overall walking distance of over 20 miles.
Alex’s sister, Maddi, suffers from the rare Spastic Paraplegia Type 15 (known as SPG15) which typically shows itself during childhood and can affect mobility as well as neurological functions but varies between individual cases.
Hear Alex and Victoria explain the reasons behind this challenge, the hurdles they’ll overcome as well as the long-term aims for treating SPG15.

We hope to have them back in the studio in the near future to hear how their fundraising efforts (and fitness regime!) are going…
