Fiona and Ian from the Brentwood School’s Christian Worker Trust joined me in the studio this evening. Ian said the roll of the organisations was to be of service to the schools on behalf of the churches in Brentwood. He told us they work in many schools across the sectors in Brentwood and also in Ongar and Margaretting. Assembles are taken, assistance given to religious education and clubs are run. This includes running workshops leading to Christmas and Easter. Providing prayer spaces was also important in the rush and pressure of contemporary life. The trust also provide chaplains for schools, who are able to listen to listen to young people and help them address problems. More information about the trust can be found on www.bscwt.org, office@bscwt.org. Ian told us how he will be running in the Brentwood Half-marathon on the 18th of March to raise money for the trust. He has never run a half marathon before!
He can be sponsored on www.give.net/runforbscwt
More information on any aspect of the work can be obtained by phoning the office on 01277 249275.
Tonight’s playlist
Temptations – Ball of confusion
Simon & Garfunkle – Hazy shade of winter – continuing our journey through Paul Simon’s career. With snow and freezing temperatures, it felt appropriate to play a song mentioning winter!
ELO – Diary of Horace Wimp – chosen by Rosie, who should have also joined us tonight, but was snowbound in her house.
Coldplay – Adventure of lifetime – chosen by Fiona
Switchfoot – Live it well – chosen by Ian
James Taylor – You’ve got a friend
David Essex – A winter’s tale – requested by Patrick
Vicar of Dibley theme – Remembering how Emma Chambers, the verger Alice in the series, made us all laugh. Thanks Emma.
The Real Thing – You to me are everything, Can’t get by without you – remembering lead singer Eddie Amoo
Sophie Griffiths – I’d rather go blind
Lisa Harman – Make my way for an angel – another show exclusive from Lisa
Ramsey Lewis – Wade in the water – for Chris in Bishop Stortford
Kate Bush & Larry Adler – The man I love – the most commented on track by listeners tonight. – Lee, working on US tax returns, could not believe how 1920s Kate sounded. Chris in Harlow, a big Kate fan, had never heard it before…and loved it.
Billy Joel – Just the way you are – Four Seasons – Rag doll. These two tracks are connected. Billy said that the inspiration for his song was the last line of the Four Seasons track.
Michel Buble – the very thought of you – for Jonty, who listeners kept asking, “Where is he?” He was performing in a Shakespeare play, some of which was meant to be outside…in the snow! We will hear all about it next week.
Join me next Friday evening, when my studio guest will be Revd. Penny Sayer, the Bradwell area Turn-around minister. She will be explaining this unique and innovative role, together with her spiritual journey that led to this post. I am sure it will be fascinating.
