Billericay Blog: The club progress to their second Cup Final

Billericay Town FC beat Corinthian Casuals 3-1 Monday in the League Cup Semi Final, they are now in their second cup final of the season, they will play either Dulwich/Brentwood or Met Police in the final which will be played at Aveley. Monday nights game was played on a wet night, this made the pitch very heavy and difficult to play on.

We are also in the final of the Essex Senior Cup having beaten Romford 6-1 in the semi final. The final takes place at Colchester on the 20th March v Chelmsford.

It has been a successful season so far in all cup competitions, on the 6th February we beat Harrogate (National League North) 3-2 in an FA Trophy replay. It was a hard fought game with Billericay reduced to 10 in the 2nd half hanging on at the end. We are playing at home to Wealdstone (National League South) in the Quarter Final on Saturday 24th February, this is the first time we have reached this stage in this major competition.

Recent league form has been mixed, on Saturday 10th February we drew 2-2 with Met Police in a hard fought game, on Tuesday 13th February we beat Lowestoft 5-0 at home, playing one of our best games in recent weeks, but on Saturday 17th February we lost 3-1 away at Leiston. This was only our second league defeat of the season, we played one of our poorest games and didn’t deserve anything from the game, Leiston played really well. Despite this blip in form we are still top of the league by 1 point from Margate, but we have 7 games in hand.

A lot continues to happen at the club, BT Sport has started filming for a documentary on Billericay Town, they were at the club on the night we beat Lowestoft 5-0, a good night to be there.

Jake Robinson has now scored 46 goals, the team have scored 154 goals so far this season which is another club record, the previous best was in season 1977/78 when they scored 142 in all competitions. The team have also scored in 52 consecutive games, another record.

Jermaine Pennant & Louie Theophanous have left the club, 4 new players have signed. Calum Butcher, Luke Rooney, Liam Hughes and Scott Doe. All of these players have considerable football league/national league experience and should make a big difference to the squad at this stage of the season. (Details just released Tom Conlon midfielder aged 22 signed on loan from Stevenage)

We’ve been lucky with injuries, only Kevin Foley has been out for a long period, he’s had an operation on his groin and should resume light training soon. In last nights game Josh Urquhart a regular in the team went off with concussion and will be out for a week.

Fixture Update

21/02 (Away) v Folkestone League
24/02 (Home) v Wealdstone FA Trophy Quarter Final
27/02 (Away) v Wingate & Finchley League
03/03 (Away) v Worthing League
