Friday Night Extra 16.2.18 with an appreciation of the music of Paul Simon.

Tonight’s show included an appreciation of the music of Paul Simon, who has announced that the Homeward Bound tour will be his last. We also had a number of requests tonight. John was struggling with giving up chocolate for Lent, so we played him a track by the band Hot Chocolate to give him his chocolate for the day. Phyl requested a track by Pat Boone, so we had to dust-off the Phoenix FM 78rpm player. Sounded good. We had an exclusive track from Lisa Harman, who e-mailed in for a track by Barry Manilow. She said that the song, ‘Could it be magic’, which is based on  a prelude by Chopin, had inspired her to write sons based on classical music. Arthur’s theme brought in comments from listeners about both the song and the film. When we played a track from Motown the Musical, we instantly had three e-mails from listeners who had all seen it recently and loved it.

Tonight’s playlist

Mark Antionne – Sunlife – new show theme.

Michelle Ward – What a wonderful world – a version from our weekday mid-morning presenter

Moody Blues – Ride my see-saw

Carrie Underwood – There’s something in the water

Piano Guys – Its gonna be O.K. – Jonty’s favourite track of the night

Beatles – You can’t do that – requested by Patrick

Beatles – Can’t by me love – played for Jonty because he said he had never heard it!

Pat Boone – When the swallows come back to Capistrano – requested by Phyl

Lisa Harman – You are my son/son – Lisa said she had written this song for a friend and her son, and before tonight it had never been heard by anyone else.

Christopher Cross – Arthur’s theme

James Taylor – Up on the roof

Sophie Griffiths – I’d rather go blind

Theme from the Avengers – thanks for all who e-mailed in to identify the T.V. programme

ECHO – Aint nobody

Blossoms – Charlemagne – requested by Adrian

Simon and Garfunkel – Sound of Silence

Paul Simon – Diamonds on the soles of her shoes

Simon & Garfunkle – Bridge over troubled waters

James Morrison – Come back and stay – requested by Chris
